Petersburg Restoration News

This page will be dedicated to reporting on the various restoration projects going on in Petersburg. There are some exciting efforts underway! They include the house purchased by our new state senator Joe Morrissey, the recent purchase of Strawberry Hill, ongoing work on the Thomas-Day house, work to be done on the Thomas Wallace house, and the effort that is being put into saving the Jarratt House on Pocahontas Island. And these are just the tip of the iceberg.

We will be reporting any and all restoration efforts in the city, both big and small projects, some new, some that are in advanced stages of work. So please make sure to check back often for new entries.  And if you are in the process of restoring a City property yourself and would like to have your efforts featured, please let us know!  We will be posting articles as quickly as we can get the reporting done!

Also posted on these pages you will find:

  • Periodic updates on the properties being featured.
  • Information on real estate in Petersburg.
  • Resources for those buying or looking to buy an historic property.
  • Links to other sites dedicated to issues surrounding ownership of historic properties.
  • Comments, advice and photos from Petersburg residents who live in and/or are restoring an historic home.*
  • Owners stories of completed restorations and/or about living in an historic home.

Most importantly, please pass these articles along to anyone you know who may be interested in purchasing and rehabbing a property in Petersburg. The interest has been growing but the prices are still attractive. The properties come in all sizes and conditions, some in need of more extensive work but some needing just a bit of updating and TLC. Even more enticing is the fascinating history that comes with many of them! The chance to get in on this exciting movement will not last forever. Those who do will find out just how rewarding it is and how enjoyable it is being a part of the Petersburg community of “revival advocates.”

Welcome to our ‘revival” world and thank you for your interest!
