Preserving and Restoring Petersburg’s Historic Realty

Message from President

Greetings and welcome to Historic Petersburg Foundation’s (HPF) website. Since 1967, HPF has worked to preserve the historic properties in the city of Petersburg. Our Board of Trustees is made up of a number of dedicated volunteers who spend many hours promoting the restoration of the historic fabric of our city. Additionally, we also have a number of volunteers throughout the community who also contribute valuable service to the organization and its mission.

HPF sponsors quite a few activities throughout the year, such as history related events with speakers and guided walking tours. A good number of these events are free and open to all those interested in Petersburgs history and diverse architecture. Other activities are fundraisers for the organization, or members only activities to show appreciation to our supporters.

A favorite event for many, the annual Historic Homes Tour, is held each December and always features restored homes in one of our historic neighborhoods, lovingly decorated for the holiday season. The Christmas Homes Tour is one of the best ways HPF has to highlight Petersburgs historic neighborhoods.

Our largest fundraiser is the annual Ball in the Burg, held in the late winter/early spring each year. The ball has a different theme each year and guests have the option of wearing either a themed costume or formal attire. It is an evening filled with good food, drink, dancing and both a live and silent auction. This has become the largest event of its kind in Petersburg, and we look forward to continuing to grow this year.

Although HPF is a small nonprofit preservation organization, with only one full time staff member, we are very active and are working hard to promote Petersburgs history and architecture and encourage restoration of historic structures.

Thank you for viewing our website and we hope you will visit Petersburg soon and see first hand the wonderful architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Lt Col Ken Roy, President
